Margaret Meredith Palmer - Tombstone Tuesday

Margaret Meredith Palmer lies in the small graveyard at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Kilmarnock, Virginia. The land the church and graveyard are on was originally part of Clifton plantation, the Palmer home.

Her son John A. Palmer and his family are buried near her under a series of large markers.

  2. I don't recall ever seeing that many graves of the type before. Kilmarnock sounds like an Irish name to me. Do you happen to know if it is?

  3. It is picturesque, isn't it Cathy? One of many I saw this summer.

    Kathy, Kilmarnock a town in Scotland. I'm not sure how the Virginia town was named, but presumably by some Scots! It was originally founded by a William Steptoe and called Steptoe's Ordinary but by 1780 was being referred to as Kilmarnock.
