Four Sawyer Boys, 1904 - Wordless Wednesday

The four eldest sons of my great-grandparents Gee and Catherine Conway Sawyer: (clockwise from top) William Herbert Sawyer (19 August 1895 - 27 March 1923), James Philip Sawyer (27 August 1901 - 9 April 1931), John Conway Sawyer (11 January 1904 - 19 October 1989) and Robert Porter Sawyer (20 July 1898 - 11 September 1985).

  1. And yet, they weren't. Their sister's descriptions of them as children bring to mind Peter Pan's Lost Boys or maybe the Lord of the Flies. Just a little mischievous...

  2. I am just loving all these old photos I see posted today...

The young man on the far left looks to me as if he's "cruising for a bruising" as my grandma used to say...

  3. My uncle, Thomas Bond, married Clara Chisam Sawyer several years after Phil's tragic death. His first wife, Violet Dearing, died of kidney disease in 1930. The four of them were classmates at Milligan College. Tom and Clara, both educators, had a long and happy marriage. And they always stayed in contact with the Sawyer and Dearing families through visits and correspondenceThey considered them family! I find this blog very interesting!
